Why AirfloStudio, or at least, why Airflo? Well, to be honest, I'm just fond of the name. It evokes the streamlined moderne style I happen to like a lot. How did I get stuck on that word? Several things lead me there, actually. One is a favorite car of mine, the Chrysler 1934 Airflow. A revolutionary automobile in both the styling and engineering. (Here it is next to the M-10000 train).

The actual name AirFlo Studios was used in a movie I happen to like, Xanadu. Disenchanted artist Sonny was tired of his job reproducing album covers for the record company AirFlo Studios. I think you only see the name once, on the gate of the studio as he drives his car in.

My use of the name Airflo really started up in the early '90s, when I gave that name to a roleplaying game character in a Golden Age Champions campaign I was involved in. She was a Jazz Age flapper taken into space ala Flash Gordon and turned into the streamlined cyborg known as Airflo. It was a really good campaign and I was really pleased with the character.

The last direct reference I know of is the title of a book of illustrations by Phillip Castle. He has done a number of well known posters and other images. His strange girl/car/plane combinations were also an inspiration for my Airflo character above.
